Our Programs

Boys State

American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students. It is a participatory program where each participant becomes part of the operation of his local, county, and state government. Post 114 sponsors two to three young men each year.

Oratorical Scholarship Program

"A Constitutional Speech Contest" — developed to instill a better knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution in high school students. The program develops leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly, and preparation for the duties and responsibilities of American citizenship.

Poppy Campaigns

During World War I, when the fields of Flanders were bombed, sunlight reached poppy seeds in the disturbed soil and soon the fields were covered with red blossoms. The American Legion adopted the red poppy as its symbol, worn every Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
